Hope
2021 | 21 × 29.7 cm | PrEP pill in frame
Sold at auction (The Auction Collective, London, 2021)
A single PrEP pill, carefully mounted on a white background. The gesture is minimal, yet the meaning is expansive. Hope transforms a preventative treatment into an emblem of memory and survival.
The work reflects on the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, particularly the lives lost within the queer community, and the revolutionary shift brought about by access to treatment and prevention. This pill does not only prevent infection; it restores agency. It carries the hopes of those we lost, and the determination of those who remain not only to survive, but to live fully and to dream for those who never had the chance.
By isolating and framing the pill, the artist invites reflection on what has changed and what must never be forgotten. A monument.
